Rose Rosette Disease and Resistance in Roses by Bill Barnes
Rose rosette disease is a deadly disease that attacks hybrid tea roses, floribundas, grandifloras and old-fashioned varieties. While the disease has been around since the 1940’s, it has only recently gained headlines because of its presence in the Philadelphia region. Come learn more about the disease and what’s being done to breed resistant roses at the next meeting of the Philadelphia Rose Society.
Bill Barnes is a plant breeder and developer which includes roses, wholesale plant buyer, and nurseryman with 40 years of experience in the horticulture industry. Owner of Barnes Horticultural Services, LLC in Bucks County, he is trying to breed a rose resistant to rose rosette disease. He first saw rosette disease around 2005, and since then he’s written about the disease for trade publications.
